Dan Nistor is a European eCommerce specialist and technical strategist, currently leading as CEO and co-founder of Vevol Media — a Shopify & Shopify Plus agency trusted by top-tier brands. With a strong background in performance optimisation, UX design, and digital scalability, he helps merchants transition from outdated platforms to high-performing Shopify stores built for global growth.
Focused on cross-border expansion and data-driven eCommerce strategies, Dan works with clients like Dossier, ApiLand, ToplCup, and DY Nutrition to unlock new markets and elevate customer experience. As a brand ambassador for the Balkan eCommerce Summit 2025, he champions innovation, speed, and seamless localisation as key drivers for eCommerce success across the region.
How do you see events like the Balkan eCommerce Summit 2025 and the Shopify Meetup CEE contributing to the growth and development of the regional eCommerce ecosystem? What motivated you to become a brand ambassador for the event?
Europe has a lot of potential in terms of eCommerce despite the heavy bureaucracy we face. Those events bring leaders together and offer a platform for growth in terms of collaboration. That’s it, hyper-quality networking. Additionally based on the Shopify entrepreneurship index Eastern Europe shined globally, with Lithuania ranking #2 for its focus on financial literacy and tech innovation, and Romania #3, driven by rapid ecommerce growth and digital transformation. All this motivates me to do what I do and to be an ambassador for the event.
What are the most effective strategies for Balkan eCommerce brands to break into and sustain growth in Western European markets using Shopify?
Thanks to Shopify, Balkan eCommerce brands can easily localize their stores with local currencies, payment methods, and translations. This builds trust quickly. At Vevol Media, we globalise about 70% of our local clients because it’s so easy with a robust platform like Shopify and Shopify Plus.
My advice is to focus on cultural adaptation, not just language. Use EU-based payment gateways. Show verified reviews and (real) trust badges. Collaborate with local influencers. Create content that speaks to each market. Stay transparent with policies and delivery times. This way, any Balkan brand can stand out and grow in competitive Western European markets.
Based on your experience with Shopify and the European market, which product categories hold the highest growth potential specifically for brands looking to expand into Western Europe?
Fashion, beauty, and home goods are the fastest-growing product categories for brands expanding into Western Europe. The European beauty market alone is projected to reach over $100 billion by 2026. Fashion eCommerce in Europe is also booming, expected to grow at 9% CAGR through 2027, while health and wellness products are seeing a 6.5% annual increase.
My advice? Combined with fast shipping, transparent policies, and strong branding, these elements help new players compete with established EU brands and scale quickly in Western Europe. And, of course, leverage all the marketplaces available, such as eMag, Faire (B2B), Zalando, Amazon etc.
What are the top 3 design and UX mistakes you frequently encounter when auditing Shopify stores, especially from developing markets like CEE?
The top 3 design and UX mistakes we see all the time in online stores from CEE are slow loading times, unoptimised for mobile devices, and confusing navigation. Pages are often cluttered, and menus are too deep… people get lost.
Slow speed, mostly caused by heavy images and too many apps, kills conversions. This is exactly why we migrate so many stores to Shopify from other platforms. It’s faster, cleaner, and easier to optimise. Keep it simple.
How effective has Shopify Markets been as a cross-border expansion tool for brands in emerging regions like the Balkans? Can you highlight specific scenarios where it works exceptionally well?
Shopify Markets works incredibly well for brands in the Balkans and CEE. The only things a merchant needs to handle are logistics, customer support, and fiscality. All the tech: currency conversion, local payment methods, automatic taxes, translations, and international domains is taken care of by Shopify.
At Vevol, we’ve helped clients go cross-border in as little as 48 hours! The part merchants often overlook is the complexity of shipping, returns, and supporting customers in multiple languages. But if you plan for that, the rest is smooth. As an entrepreneur or eCommerce manager, you just need the vision to take the next step.
Based on your experience, what are the top 3 strategic moves you would advise Balkan entrepreneurs to focus on in 2025 if they want to build a sustainable and competitive eCommerce business?
Sell B2B!
This is such an overlooked channel. Shopify has a B2B capacity not many know about. You can set up custom price lists, payment terms, and dedicated storefronts for wholesale customers, all native to Shopify Plus.
Secondly, why not leverage marketplaces like Faire, Ankorstore, and Orderchamp? These platforms already have thousands of European retailers looking for new products. It’s a fast way to scale without heavy marketing spending. List your products, offer competitive margins, and let the platform do part of the work for you.
Another strategy is to leverage TikTok and influencers. If you are not creating video content, you will be left behind. Then, optimize for AI chatbot product searches. In 2 years’ time, online shopping is going to look very different. AI-based recommendations are going to shape the way we purchase things online, and they will influence our decisions.
